With our dear friends from Portland (miss you, PDX) Anna and Daniel Wilson last night celebrating Daniel’s latest bestseller, #TheAndromedaEvolution. It’s the sequel to The Andromeda Strain, fifty years in the making, and is technically the first authorized sequel to the worlds of Michael Crichton. Very proud of Daniel. Everyone go read it!

Facebook reminded me that 9 years ago I was shooting #TheArtist, a film that at the time I thought would be “maybe an indie-arthouse hit.” Little did we know it would go on to win Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Music, Best Costume (along with numerous other nominations). It was such an extraordinary experience. Because it was a silent film, our director Michel Hazanivicius had beautiful music playing from a gramophone the entire time. Our costume designer Mark Bridges had me in clothes from the 1950s that were worn by actress Dorothy Lamour. They were practically falling apart but I loved them. Every time I put her boots on it sent me back in time. ❤️

And I couldn’t ask for a better or more fun partner than Tyler 🎉 Also, in the interest of reiterating how much I LOVE playing #LoisLane, I’m reposting part of the blurb I wrote when I was first cast a year ago: Excuse me while I fangirl for a moment: When I started acting, one of my teachers asked me to watch the screen tests for the role of Lois Lane for 1978’s Superman. All of the actresses were terrific, but it was always clear to me why Margot Kidder won the role: she seemed lit from within, full of joie de vivre. Now, at a time when the noble profession of journalism feels under siege, it’s a privilege to join the club of actresses who have played the dogged reporter. As far back as 1938 when she first appeared in Action Comics #1, Lois Lane has defied and subverted society’s expectations of how women should behave. She was portrayed as opinionated, inquisitive, and an unapologetically badass career woman at a time when many representations of women leaned more towards meek and demure. One of the reasons the character has remained so compelling for the last 80 years is that she has all these formidable, strong-willed qualities, but she’s also vulnerable, romantic, and feminine. A truly modern woman. ❤️

The New Adventures of Lois and Lois 💜

People often ask me whether I liked playing Juliette or Eve more and the answer is definitely Eve. I loved how powerful and independent and badass she was and I’ll always be grateful to the writers for giving me not one but two complex women to play. But with Juliette it felt like things happened TO her as opposed to Eve who went out and happened to things. #grimm 💪

Random baby-daddy appreciation post: Took this sweet photo the other evening. Vivian is a super happy, easy baby, but we’ve been flying a lot for work, which is a lot to ask of a 5-month old, and Monday we had to wake her up at 4am to make the first flight. She was uncharacteristically fussy that night - and @mrgiuntoli patiently rocked her for well over an hour until she fell asleep hugging him like this. Being a parent is incredibly rewarding but also difficult - so besides acknowledging David for being such a terrific co-pilot, I also wanted to give a shout-out to all the single parents out there who are doing it on their own - you inspire me! 💪
