My heart is with you #salma. This trip is just beginning to sink deep into my skin. This was the most painful day of this trip, but also the most eye opening. Pain is such an interesting thing. Whether it’s physical or emotional, you can heal starting with your mind. If you start with understanding where the pain comes from you can find peace in it, but you really have to sit in it first. Seeing the brokenness of the world first makes me overwhelmed not knowing where to start and wanting to give up, then it makes me wanna fight harder. Having been sick with a stomach bug most of this trip made me so angry at first because it was really hard to enjoy a lot of moments that I wanted to be present for and could only focus on the pain. I really had to surrender and accept what was happening to my body, let it be and believe it was going to pass. As it’s now over, I realize I walk out with more mental strength reminding myself that I’m capable of anything even in my weakest moments. Sometimes if you just smile, and laugh, you can see even when life hurts, it’s not that bad, you can make it better even if just for a moment. You didn’t miss anything at all. You were exactly where you were supposed to be and feeling exactly how you were supposed to feel. It was an honor to be here in Indonesia on this trip. Yesterday was a rough one. I got to spend time with an elephant that was caught in a snare and rescued. Her injury has healed well but her spirit has not. It sure feels like there is not much winning out here. There are many cultural and political issues we’re unaware of back home that we need to take into consideration that I’ve been informed of. There is suffering on ALL ends and none of it is fair. One thing I know is we must keep the animals in the wild, and we must support banning snares to do so. Elephants need love to survive too. They die from heartbreak all the time too. My heart truly broke experiencing their pain yesterday. Us humans need healing just like the animals, but it’s gotta start with us for the world to heal at all. #freedom #healyourself #selma end with a fake birthday? A few incredible stills my friend @_brettburch took. Laying with myself for the first time looking through the trip so far. There is so much going on inside of me. Sometimes trying to retain all of the Information can feel like a lot for me. I get stressed and overwhelmed and feel like I can’t keep up, or that I don’t know enough. Then, I remember I’m here to connect and grow with nature. I’m here to listen and receive. Im here to see in person what’s really going on so when I come home I can do something about it. When you spend time out there you see the gifts of these beautiful animals, and they show you yours. Finding your gifts allows you to show up in life and give back to all that’s given to us. We are all these perfect imperfections just trying to survive. It’s all connected, there’s always more going on inside than what’s seen on display. Animals are my greatest teachers. They remind me that I’m my own individual creature and I don’t need to be anything else. There’s a lot of upsetting things I’ve been seeing that bring me such great anger but... I know if we all show up as ourselves and truly our authentic selves, we’ll see that what the worlds been missing is YOU. The world needs you. 🧡

As I am educating my self on this journey my hopes are to educate you too. Today... there are less than 14,000 Sumatran orangutans left on the planet 90% of them within the Leuser ecosystem. I’d like to find words for this trip... I’m still working on it, per usual. I kept thinking “revealing” because the layers just keep on coming. But there is nothing like family. Blood related or not. I love this man Louis F. Sotto... thanks for always making me laugh when life takes over. It was such an honor to work with a man of such great artistic influence. He sure set the bar high for every film to come, I will say that. I hope you can all be patient because it will probably be a year before you see the film. As much as Indie films are often a disaster while shooting, with close to no sleep, your body and mind being pulled in every direction. This one hands down, was worth it all. Reminiscing hard on africa this morning. Here’s a few videos to share our experience. There is nothing like trekking for miles in the deep jungle and showing up to find a family of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The kids we found in the mountains took our breath away and made me feel things I’ve never felt before. I will never ever forget these moments of life. Gorillas are 98.5% the same genetic make up as us. I see it in reverse though. If we compare ourselves to them, what were missing is the raw, loyal, genuine nature that every gorilla has with out doing anything at all. I’m coming back for you Africa!!! 🦍💨❤️ my happy place.
