Give my husband a child’s toy and he will make something not only beautiful but practical. We always joke that at the end of the world, he’s the guy you want to have around. Me? Well, I could entertain you while you hunt for food....

My son and I play “exquisite corpse”—which was originally a writing game . We play as follows: one person starts a drawing in one color and then the next person adds to the drawing in another color and so on. The trouble is knowing when a drawing is done. We always go too far...or maybe not.

1st day of rehearsals for Tartuffe. Took my usual long walk this morning and then had to hustle to get to the National for a 10:00 am call. Nervous. What if they made a mistake in casting me? Blinding sun on the bridge actually calmed me down. Felt nerdy taking a pic of the building but then thought, “No—do it”

A tale of 2 cities. I can’t believe that I’m actually living in Paris and working in London. Years ago, a friend of mine and I sat drinking in a bad chain restaurant and fantasized what our lives would be like in the future. We left the place and wandered into the night with the plan to “bump” into each other. We probably each walked around for 10-15 minutes and then we saw each other and pretended that it was 20-30 years in the future and we found another place to drink and we caught each other up on our lives. I remember that we each created tragic-ish future/pasts for ourselves. (Futures which largely came true, by the way). But I remember distinctly creating this future where I was jetting back and forth to London and I was successful but unhappy—alone after a string of failed romances. Weird what we put out there. Of course, I’m not alone. I never saw myself married. I never saw myself with a child. I never ever dreamed of living in Paris. At least I got the London part right.

Before and after. This is Jonathan and this is his story. He showed up at the Con after flying in from NYC—hoped to get a last minute ticket and got lucky but had no hotel booked and then, when he arrived direct from the airport, he was told he couldn’t bring his luggage in cuz it was a possible threat. He tossed his suitcase and ALL HIS CLOTHES in the bin cuz he had to get into the Con. Slept on a couch after he asked the hive mind on FB for help. Came back to find his suitcase only to told that it was blown up by the police. Came back to see me. I gave him a LIZ shirt and now all is well. He is a playwright. You just know it’s gonna end up onstage. #ComStories

Something about that little boy all the way to the left is so real, so well-observed. I know this is a minor painting by a minor artist but I found it very compelling. “La parade des humbles” de Fernand Pelez. He was raised in the batignolles where we now live and he painted the poor and the powerless. Reminds me a little of Velasquez, one of my favorite painters.

I’d heard about this place and went by last time I was in London and found out that the wait was 80 minutes and I walked away. Hugo and Dec and I are here for a London weekend and I was going to meet them in Covent Garden and decided, what the heck, I’ll get in line and when they arrive, we’ll go somewhere else. They arrived and we decided to wait just for a little bit. But they brought us hot chai while we waited and we chatted with other folks and Dec and I played tag on St. Martin’s lane and the time evaporated and suddenly it was our turn. We waited an hour and a half. It was worth it.

From our recent appearance at Savannah Film Festival with our film, “The Parting Glass”. One of the unexpected joys of making this movie has been the journey we’ve all gone on during the festival season. Hanging out together in Edinburgh where we all went to a calleigh (Scottish dance). I got to dance with Anna — and then on to Karlovy Vary. Steve and I shared a long car ride and then got to catch up with each other. Mill Valley was next and Cerise, Mark, Steve and I had an impromptu picnic in the lobby of the hotel and later, Steve and I grabbed some bikes and went exploring. Then Savanah where Steve, Cerise and I watched Roma together and wept. Finally, Leeds this weekend where Anna and Cerise are representing us. #thepartingglassmovie
