This year has been a blur. One of our biggest hopes for 2019 was to spend as much time at home as possible, but we’ve somehow spent nearly 5 months of it living in hospital. This little getaway was so that I could finally work and shoot my collection with @spell, and a much needed change of scenery for us all. We had barely checked in to @saltatshoalbay before realising a beautiful family that we know from hospital were also staying there with the same idea! It was surreal being able to get to know each other in the outside world, spontaneously popping champagne to celebrate our daughters. There is nothing more special than enjoying something so normal, and watching them finally able to meet and play together for the first time (both immunodeficient) despite having spent weeks living just rooms apart. 🙌

Pinching myself, our limited edition collection is now live on @spell through the link in my bio. 😭❤️🍃 This is my absolute favourite, go to travel outfit of all time. I fell in to repeatedly finding and wearing versions of this throughout the years and countries; a peasant blouse from local markets in Italy or Mexico, and billowing maxi skirt found in London, Turkey or Sri Lanka. I last wore it for a week straight in New Zealand, when I was hiding my tiny bump on our last road trip. If there were ever pieces to mean everything to me, these are it. 🥰 #tuulaxspell

Sometimes I think back to the days where I used to find myself in places I could never have imaged, after boarding a one way flight to the other side of the world. I travelled solo and I made friends of strangers. I wandered cities, alleyways, markets and maps. I fell in to a habit of collecting pieces; thrift, vintage or special pieces by local labels that became my souvenirs, my momentos. They travelled with me through the next country or continent, either making memories when worn or stuffed inside my single suitcase. A few years ago my favourite label @spell asked if I wanted to design a few special pieces together, inspired by those pieces I had collected travelling and my favourite’s from their bohemian collections. To say this is a dream realised is an understatement. On Thursday @spell are releasing our collaboration, a limited edition collection of four pieces. I don’t know if I will ever travel like that again but I’m giddy and grateful that these pieces could accompany moments of someone else’s journey. A girl can dream... #tuulaxspell

Our Ru is two! 🌈🧚‍♀️💕🌞🎈🍄🌱🐥 🎉 We never would have thought that having Ru’s birthday in hospital would end up being one of the best days of her life. But as always I’m reminded to never expect anything else from the tiniest, mightiest girl who turns every moment in to beaming love and laughter. We are eternally grateful to everyone at @sydney_kids, @starlightau, @clowndoctorsaus, @rmhc_sydney and most of all her nurses (who became like second family) on C2S for taking care of and loving on our crazy girl so, so much. 🌻❤️

Here I am wondering how to get through each day and then you smile, and your laugh turns in to a cackle until you can barely breathe... Baby girl you’re the most resilient I’ll ever know.

Happy Christmas from our little Ru-dolph. This time of year amplifies both the happy, and the hard. If you’re struggling today please remember that it is just like any other old day to get through, and hold on to that glimmer of hope or fight that keeps you going. She is that glimmer for me. One day at a time. ❤️✨

There is nothing better than celebrating with friends, wine and pizza while watching the sun go down. ✨ For my birthday last month I made an Italian feast including my very first pizza dough, with pizza and pasta sauce made using my new @vitamix_aunz Ascent. To me, food is one of the biggest joys in life and I find solace in cooking. Unfortunately due to Ru’s complex feeding issues and oral aversion she cannot eat solids, so we spend majority of every day trying to help food stay in. The only way we have been able to share a meal as a family is by blending a selective diet for her with our @vitamix_aunz Ascent, which has just been made even more manageable with their new smaller cups and bowls. We will slowly grade up consistency until hopefully the day Ru will be able to eat and grow typically, but until then any exposure to food is invaluable. #vitamixaunz #feedyourlife

The universe is not trying to break you, my dear, it’s trying to find a way to wake you up, so that you will see what is real, and worth fighting for. It takes time to heal, but it also takes courage.

Thank you @landroveraus for getting us out and in to what feels like the other side of the world. Where the rolling hills look like Tuscany but better yet it is only a road trip from home ❤️

Home 🤗 With our happy little vegemite 🌈

When @landroveraus loaned us one of their incredible Discovery’s we thought we would be roaming Australia’s outback and coastlines together in it. Of course “life happens when you are busy making plans” and as we have spent a vast majority of the year in hospitals, our car also spent it in their multilevel car parks. But we are so grateful to have this car help us escape every chance we can. Ru’s doing so well and we’re beyond excited to be making plans to adventure more together through the coming months, expanding her horizons. ✨☁️

Ru’s cheeks were still red with rash from her tape, but being able to play in the sand tubie free is a very, very special thing ✨

A few weeks ago we bundled in to the car and drove a few hours south for a last minute overnight escape. Ru had just spent a few weeks in hospital isolation, and we all desperately needed some fresh air. It couldn’t get much better than this; an outdoor fire, tiny house and each other’s company. 💕 @landroveraus @in2thewild.aus

Thank you for everyone’s messages of support and celebration over the last few days about Ru being free of her tubie, it has certainly been life changing for us all! Her tubie does come and go as she needs some extra help and health, so please don’t be too worried if you see it every now and again. She’s conquered so much to get here and we couldn’t be prouder 🙌💪✨

If there ever was an image that I’ve wanted to be transported to, this will always be it. It’s not just of our little family; outside enjoying sunshine and fresh air together already a few months ago now, but it somehow captured two moments that mean everything to me. Pat kissing my forehead. Ru playing with my hair. These small acts are what make me feel the best in the world. That help me find calm through the hardest days. Thank you so much to everyone who has checked in and sent kind thoughts over the last few weeks. We’re just settling in back at home after an unexpected few weeks in isolation at our local hospital and focusing on getting Ru healthier, and back to her happy self. 🌻

Found a lost little koala bear in the Blue Mountains 🐨🌿

I used to travel to see the world through fresh eyes, now I try to see every moment through hers.

This may be one of our favourite family experiences yet... ❤️ Perched high among the mountains overlooking hundreds of kangaroos, wallabies and wombats while the setting sun hit the cliff face. Thank you @wolganv for not only the freshest air we have had in a long time, but for treating us to something so remote, so magic, and so so special for us to remember forever. ✨ 🌿

Back on the road with endless thanks to @landroveraus. We are currently waiting to hear from Ru’s surgeons with the date of her upcoming Peg placement (G tube) so thought we should make the most of exploring for a few days together before another Hospital stint, Ru’s recovery and our next big learning curve. She might not grow quickly in size, but with every little adventure she suddenly grows so much older and wiser. 💘

Some of my most treasured moments of Ru have been when arriving home after each stint in hospital. Her face lights up and a giddy noise escapes her, checking our faces for approval as if she doesn’t know what she’s done to deserve something as special as being home with her toys, her trees, and us again. There really is no place like home. 🌿❤️ @globewest

It’s been another big week at @sydney_kids Hospital. Full of tests, scopes, sleepless nights and a few new scares thrown in. Although we regularly feel frustration and defeat of not being closer to helping our little Ru-bik’s cube, there is no better place to regain perspective. We always come home full of gratitude; for the Doctors, Nurses, staff, each parent and bub we learn so much from sharing a room with. And for Ru. We’re grateful for every single tiny bit of her, “tricks” and all. 💕
