New acquisition! 🎉 Today, on Silence of the Lambs 29th anniversary (or should I say hanniversary? 😉), I was finally able to open this new item for my collection: Silence of the Lambs The Criterion Collection DVD edition released in 2017. I actually wanted to make a review, but it's got so much stuff I think it will take several days to see and review all that! Believe it or not, I have never actually owned this movie in any format, be it dvd, vhs, let alone blu ray. It's always been hard to find in my country because it's considered an old movie 🙄 And what's even worse, I have never actually seen SOTL completely in good or even decent condition. See, the first time I saw this movie it was in a collection of dvds burned by me and even though the quality was certainly not bad, I remember I was so bad at burning dvds that the Spanish subtitles were enormous and occupied practically all screen 😂 This has never prevented me from appreciating the movie though, and even though I always wanted to find an original copy, as I said it was impossible for me to do so. Until now of course. I wonder what I will think of the quality though, because what I've always liked about SOTL is that 'indie' look, the fact that it was a movie not intended to be a super production and yet the quality of the film was there, because of the fascinating plot, strong cinematography and camera work and superb acting. Anyway I will let you know what I think and what this edition has to offer in other posts. What did you think of this year's Oscars? First, I'd like to congratulate #JoaquinPhoenix on his first Oscar 🎉👏🏻 So well deserved. Personally, I've been waiting for it for years, I think he was snubbed a few times and it was long overdue. I remember when I first heard the news he was going to play Joker, I didn't think it was a good idea cause I just couldn't picture him starring a superhero movie (no offence here, I just didn't think it was very much related), but it turned out to be such a profound role, and I'm happy for him. On the other hand, I'm a bit disappointed #AnthonyHopkins wasn't given an Oscar for his role in #TheTwoPopes. Yes, I know #BradPitt was the favourite here but, heck Anthony Hopkins nailed his role! I mean, I'm not sure it was an accurate portrayal but his acting was so moving and I think he deserved it more than Pitt. As for the Best Picture, I was actually rooting for #Joker because I didn't think #Parasite was going to break the record of getting the major award being a foreign language movie, but they did it nonetheless! It was something really unexpected, to me at least. Both movies are excellent and I was going to be happy with either choice anyway. But I have to admit that Parasite getting the major award was #historyinthemaking and this is awesome. Kudos to #theacademy for that. What about you? What are your thoughts on it? Guys I already got my copy of Silence of the Lambs: The Criterion Collection. I'm stopping myself in order not to open it right away! 😭 (I promised I would open it on February 14th for its hanniversary 😉). Yesterday I had a small trip to a little town and on my way back home, I had to wait for a couple of hours for my bus. There was a guy waiting for the bus as well who was reading a book. And when we got to buy our tickets I could see the book title and it was... Thomas Harris' The Silence of the Lambs!! Even if it's a famous book I was still super excited. [UPDATE] Fantastic news today... Jodie will direct a new movie! And it's not just any other movie (though for me no JF movie is just any other movie). It's the true story of the theft of Mona Lisa back in 1911. How awesome is that? JF plus Da Vinci, it just doesn't get any better. The movie is based on the book The Day They Stole the Mona Lisa by Seymour Reit. According to the producers, "...our story mixes truth and fiction, and the focus is on the characters behind orchestrating the theft." Finally, two years after it was released... I'm getting a copy of Silence of the Lambs: The Criterion Collection! 🎉 To be honest, after purchasing Jodie's MasterClass I decided I was not going to make another big purchase for some time since it's a bit pricey (I've bought All Access, not just her course), but as February is the most silence-of-the-lambs-esque time of the year, I thought if I bought it later it just wouldn't be the same (or else I would have to wait till next year). In the end, I decided to make a little effort cause I think it will be worth it. So, even though I will be getting my copy by the end of January/beginning of February, I won't open it until February 14th, which is exactly 29 years later the movie came out and 2 years later this amazing edition was released. As some of you know, that day is also my birthday, so it's actually a birthday gift I give to myself.
