November 24th, 2017 🏔💖 On this day, 2 years ago, I ended a very long solo walk across the USA. My life took a turn in 2016/2017 and I decided that isolation and solitude could maybe help me find perspective on the real ME. I lost myself somewhere in the darkness, and the time I took to walk from Canada to Mexico, signified so much self-work that I had achieved through pain, perseverance and determination. In the earliest weeks of my thru-hike, it was a slog to put one foot in front of the other, but like all low-points, this was part of the cleanse to physically, mentally and emotionally renew myself and step into my own person. Everyday, I would set myself a daily mileage goal and try my hardest to conquer it. On every uphill climb, I would stop and take deep breaths. Every time I did this, I lifted my head up and looked at the view. The terrain. The mountains. The forest. The rivers. The snow glaciers. I didn’t have anyone around me and sometimes I would just burst into tears at the beauty of my surroundings. I would curse out loud at the pain my body was enduring at times. I would celebrate out loud when I made it to the top of a pass. I would wipe sweat from my brow and feel the warm, yet cooling sensation on my skin. I would enjoy the tastes of glacial waters and sit in the silence of the breeze. I’d smile to myself. I’d laugh at myself. I’d sing to myself. I’d curse at myself. I learned to congratulate myself. I learned to love myself quicker than I had lost myself. My PCT thru hike taught me to fall, pick myself up, dust myself off and keep going. Life's difficulties and hardships can be the most important lessons we can be taught, and through those teachings, those feelings are the most alive you can ever be. Trust that your universe is giving you what you need. Found this TBT to my time spent in NYC in August and having the perfect timing to see this one smash out Elphaba in @wicked_musical Broadway! Let me go on a tangent... 😆 I’ve never divulged much of my reality on my time in Wicked, but having the opportunity to understudy @jennydinoia was one of the greatest experiences I was able to learn from. She injected life into my show. Firstly, fresh off a plane from the USA; she was fierce, feisty and full of life. She was humble, grounded and filled with warmth. She was kind and excited to always perform. But, she had balance. It was one of the most inspiring times and having her join the cast, was a turning point for me. She brought a whole new Elphie to life; one that I hadn’t witnessed, and that opened my eyes to possibility. Seeing her on Broadway in 2019 made me so incredibly proud. I was so thrilled to see her, share our journey’s and mountains we have climbed, and also introduce her to my other half. He got to see that people as talented as Jenny, could be humbling and centred. Keep kicking goals, Jenny! There’s so many in the journey ahead. It’s Christmas. I am far from being a Grinch. I miss a lot of things right now. I usually decorate the tree (or when on tour, dad would decorate it and I would make him remove all decorations when I arrived home, so I could do it properly!!!). On Christmas Eve, I usually run around shopping like a maniac with my baby brother. We dance in the aisles at the Dollar Stores to Feliz Navidad, singing incorrect Spanish and wearing shitty Sombreros. I buy good gifts and then really bad gifts for my 5 brothers, like $2 bubble blowing trumpets, socks with printed sandals for the occasion that you do not want footwear, or just a Coles cleaning bucket... We have a backyard BBQ with terrible catering (dad’s fault - but he never listens to my menu advice - no one likes Cheerio cocktail sausages!!). But I love him for it!! We sit on our couch in the exact same position each year, and if someone isn’t there, we draw a Picasso portrait of their face, and stick it on the couch. We never start Christmas until mum is awake, which could be 1pm because she is probably pulling apart some laptop or getting some bachelors accreditation until 6am! This woman is incredible. It’s the best and I love it. If you are with any family and loved ones this year, cherish all of your moments. You are blessed. Make the most of the time you have being surrounded by them. It’s a magical time of year. I miss it. Merry Christmas to all and here’s a picture of my face from a 2018 Christmas party! Go hard or go home. 🎄💚❤️🎁

LONG POST. Today, it’s my birthday & I sit here contemplating the past yr of my life. From where I was this day last year, camping on the top of a mountain ridge in the desert on the PCT, there are days that I wake & feel like I have conquered nothing since. But today has forced me to really reflect. Look at the bigger picture. Since November 9th 2017, I reached the Mexican border (or wall) by foot, ending my solo trek across the USA, hopped a train to LA, spent Xmas with strangers in a Hostel in Calgary, took a solo bus trip from Vancouver, across Canada to Houston, Texas, moved to West Hollywood, tried to reintroduce myself to my career again, wasn’t ready, hit a low point in my depression which no one was aware, finally spoke up with my health struggles & chronic illness diagnosis, moved to Canada, started building a ‘normal’ life, picked up a guitar again, started songwriting again, put on some makeup again, went to Nashville, performed for the first time in 1.5yrs & answered what my truth & happiness is. The last 12 months have been a roller coaster. At times, I have felt alone, isolated, claustrophobic & frustrated. But - I’ve learned to let go, give in, get out of my head, embrace my image, my physical demons, met some of the greatest people, and finally, looked in the mirror & decided to stop wasting time not doing what I was put on this earth to do. I’m not hiding away & watching people pass me by anymore. I have purpose. I surround myself with excellent humans, who inspire me to keep going. They are keepers. I have to give myself credit that this was an integral year in finding direction. I have not done NOTHING. I forget that I have conquered a lot in this lifetime and I most certainly have a story to tell. And I keep going. So, thank you to all the extraordinary people who have walked into this chapter. The universe has given you to me for a reason. Thank you to the friends who are still holding on - even at distance. And finally, happy literal “birth” day to the MVP, Mum. Thank you for picking up the pieces of this broken dolly and putting me back together. I LOVE YOU MORE THAN LIFE. I encourage you all to take a look at your bigger picture.🎂
