This is truth. This was a conversation around the census. (Shoutout to @balleralert @naacp_yc) If you go to census.gov and look up the definition of “white” it’s says: “White – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.” What????? How many people from the Middle East or North Africa benefit from white privilege?? So that’s what people check when they emigrate here or fill out the census? So they broaden white identity but to native people they define “one who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment.” —> After centuries of forcing Native people to give up their cultural identity, religion and language and sterilizing the women and genocide and kidnapping their children etc all over the Americas including Puerto Rico and Canada etc. they say that in order to check this box you have to maintain tribal affiliation or community attachment. 🤔🤔🤔 Remember, the brown skin that makes up the stereotypical Latinx look comes from indigenous blood and Black slaves... it is not going to come from Spain. The Spanish were white, European colonizers. The majority of the Americas (Central, South and North America without imaginary borders) is indigenous people. They are the majority here. Close to 1.5 billion indigenous, 1.5 billion of African descent, 4.5 billion Asian (incl some middle Eastern and India). And finally... the smallest “racial” population, around 600 million of European descent (and even all of them don’t consider themselves “white”). Not to mention, “white” identity was invented as an oppressive construct. Research it. All that to say: I will not ever call myself or POC, a minority again.

Yooooooo @justicelanow ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽 HUUUUGE win!! DONT GET IT TWISTED... the work continues to see this done properly. But this first stage of victory is a HUGE step. Stay tuned for next steps. Follow @justicelanow THIS is what intersectional coalition building looks like!! This is what people power looks like. It’s a consistent pattern. No progress has ever come from the leader or the politician or from the top down... They are only the very tip of the iceberg. Change ALWAYS comes from the bottom up. From oppressed communities building with radical love TOGETHER and demanding change. Read below or tap the picture to see the organizers who were involved! Of course not including the important part of all of you who signed the petition and reposted and called etc. 🙏🏽🖤 #repost @mrmikedelarocha “September 2017. We launched. 100 jail beds dropped in front of the LA County Board of Supervisors. No one said it was possible. But we believed. We organized. We all played our roles. And we kept moving. — February 2019. We did it you all!!!! We stopped a jail from being built. We changed hearts and minds. We redirected resources. We centered love so much in our work that our family members would no longer be treated in cages but in hospitals. — I love you @osopepatrisse @cocosouthla @dignityandpowernow @youthjusticela @curbprisons @justleadershipusa @criticalresistance @translatinacoalition and everyone whose a part of @justicelanow This is our victory. #21ways People of color get stalked/targeted for deportation by ICE and this corrupt immigration/criminal justice system. We have to stand together #21savage is just an example... and he is not safe yet! He is released (because he shouldn’t have been detained in the first place) but he still has his hearing or trial and can still be deported. There are tens of THOUSANDS more with lower profiles (40,000+) who remain in custody! We have to stand with him and all of them. All of our liberation is linked together. Again... this is all abuse by law enforcement and our criminal justice system targeting communities of color. It’s gonna take people power to break this system. Together we can. Let’s do it. ✊🏽 (Full video link in my IG story)

#repost @blklivesmatter URGENT: @21Savage has been detained for over 1 week. Help #Free21Savage by calling ICE ATL Field Office Director Sean Gallagher at 844.278.2934 & ask him to release She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph immediately! Here is a script on what to say when you call: Hi, I am calling to ask for the immediate release of 21 Savage, She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph who is being held without bond by ICE in Atlanta Georgia. She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph has been in the United States since he was a young child. Atlanta is his home. He is the father of three U.S. citizen children and he is beloved by his friends, millions of fans, and family. He pays his taxes and has a long history of philanthropic efforts in the greater Atlanta area giving back to the community. Mr. Abraham-Joseph poses no flight risk, he is no danger to society, and there is a huge community awaiting his immediate release. We urge you to reunite She’yaa with his family and release him immediately. ( 📸 by @fraudfix )

Y’all make sure y’all tune in! On Tuesday February 12, 2019 @balleralert and @naacp_yc will host a live table discussion about the issues that matters to us, from us. This is a conversation from racism to education, presidential announcements to gun violence; join this conversation with social and civil leaders who are all under 35 years old. Speakers include myself @scottiebeam @tiffanydloftin @philofdreams @blairimani @jamiraburley and we will all take live questions so join us for this important conversation #2020Vision
Kendrick Sampson
Free21savage.org Go sign the petition. Make noise and spread the FACTS about his case. Demand his release. The truth is that too many people like him, with names like his (Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) especially Black and Brown are targeted because of racist stereotypes and assumptions. And they go under the radar and are quickly deported because White Supremacy has taught us to believe that because a Black person is an immigrant that they aren’t officially a part of our Black community, or “that’s not my fight”, or they are separate and therefore not worth fighting for... pick a reason. ...same with Brown immigrants. So we don’t rally around them like we would someone we consider “one of our own”. Police violence is not separate from mass incarceration, is not separate from violence toward Native and Trans women, is not separate from separation of families and violence at the Border, is not separate from the state violence at Standing Rock, and the Muslim Ban is not separate from immigration struggle. Its ALL STATE VIOLENCE and the same institution enacting oppression on the most vulnerable communities of color. They make us feel they are separate fights so that we don’t coalition build. And we HAVE to stand together to defeat it. White Supremacy is a toxic white masculine patriarchal structure built to prop up the .001% Billionaires. White Supremacy’s main tactic is to divide us so that we do not coalition build to the point that we throw our own people away because they’re “different” or not and vote against our own interests. It’s been disheartening to see people posting memes making fun of 21 savage being detainee by ICE instead of fighting for his release. If they’re coming for him, they are coming for you next. No citizenship status can protect you. You know what can?? People power. Let’s build. #AbolishICE #BlackLivesMatter

#repost @mspackyetti I literally did not participate in the back and forth about whether or not that red hat is a white hood. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is. Period. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m not dignifying the argument and conceding that the premise to even ask the question or “hear both sides” is legitimate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It isn’t. ::: Marginalized people have been suffering from ramped up terror for nearly 4 years now. I don’t have time to dignify your idiocy and invalidation with my voice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then to watch folks perpetuate culture that further instigates violence against marginalized ppl - especially from our own-is gross. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Your rape culture isn’t funny. Your homophobia isn’t funny. Your transphobia isn’t funny. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s deadly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Millions of us have been walking around holding our breath since 2015 scared for ourselves and anyone we know and love who is a person of color, LGBTQ, Jewish, Muslim, disabled, immigrant, and/or a woman. God forbid they live at one or more of those intersections. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We have no energy for “both sides.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The media MUST stop providing platform and tacit approval to this MAGA machine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Politicians MUST stop providing a platform & tacit approval to this MAGA machine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Educators & corporations MUST stop providing a platform & tacit approval to the MAGA machine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ HATE IS NOT A SIDE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Oppressed people are not being sensitive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’re trying to stay alive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ::: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ [image description: a typewriter font that reads “hate is not a side.”]. #JusticeForJussie

Yall this one right here is the TRUTH!! This film is done with next level excellence and even better if you get a chance to hear Chinonye talk about it and frame it within the context of the our unjust criminal “justice” system. 🙏🏽✊🏽 (Speaking of... please go to the link in my IG story and sign the @justicelanow @colorofchange petition to stop the building of a 4 BILLION dollar MENTAL HEALTH JAIL in Los Angeles. Check out my last post for more pics from the panel. This #MeToo (@metoomvmt) with @hbo panel was NEXT LEVEL! Swipe to see the love (and a treat at the end from @terrycrews twitter) shout to @osopepatrisse for the connection. ✊🏽 Men, we have some much work to do to continue to deconstruct our minds. As @taranajaneen said, this has to be the generation that break this culture! Remember men, because women of color have so many EXTRA layers of oppression than men (including higher rates of sexual assault, pay disparity, maternal mortality, health care etc) doing the work of LIBERATING women inevitably dismantles all forms of oppression that generally oppress men. You can liberate men by working to liberate women. But the opposite is not true. If you work to liberate only men, the other forms of oppression that are specific to women, still stay in tact. And you can apply that even further to other ever more intersectionally oppressed folk like imagine if we liberated the queer, disabled, trans, economically disenfranchised, Muslim woman of color? Imagine all the forms of oppression that must be dismantled to liberate that person. We’ve got work to do y’all! To survivors of sexual assault: We see you. We hear you. We believe you. #repost my post from last year: Read MLK’s words: “First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.” - MLK ***My caption from last year —> {And here in 2017, I'd like to extend this not just to white moderates but to ALL people (but in honor of MLK ESPECIALLY WHITE MODERATES) who prefer a negative peace to the presence of justice. ✊🏽 Especially those who call themselves liberal, progressive or democratic... #bechange #blacklivesmatter #heretostay #illwalkwithyou #noDAPL #lovewins #stopsessions #MLKday } This year: now let’s get up off of our asses and turn these “thank you MLK’s” into some action. Missing #PuertoRico. #reposting this caption: I think my favorite day in PR was in Loiza. Took a tour, with @karloxchef (thank you @erinschrode) as my guide, whose family is from there and who has studied the history. Loiza, the northernmost tip of Puerto Rico, (now 30 min from San Juan), on the other side of the Rio Grande is where the white colonizers from Spain “allowed” the freed slaves to live because it was swampy, uninhabitable land. But in true resilient melanin fashion, the Africans used their obstacle to their advantage and not only transformed it into a thriving community but also created and passed down most of the traditional culture we associate with Puerto Rico including Bomba, Plena, empanadas al buren, alcapurrias, Caldo Santo etc and much of the art. And it still remains beautifully BLACK 🖤🖤. EVERYONE told me I had to visit Loiza. It’s a magical place filled with beautiful melanin, from beaches and food in Piñones to crossing the beautiful bridge, el ancon that crosses the Rio Grande and stopping by a coconut stand where you can get, fresh coconuts, dulce de coco, or coconut oil. I watched the kids practice Bomba at the Cueva María de la Cruz, and the art gallery where the legend himself Samuel Lind was live painting and explaining. I also learned that, as Loiza was the northernmost point of the island it was destroyed during hurricane Irma! It was already in rebuilding mode when Maria hit! Irma missed the rest of the island... but Loiza. Despite all it’s been through it’s a beautiful thriving community that is still recovering and of course tourism is a huge help. When you go to Puerto Rico make sure you visit Loiza! And make sure you bring your mosquito spray as with any tropical paradise 🙃 Oh and the municipality flag has an interesting story: the red represents the blood of the slaves, the green represents the land... the Spanish colony? And the yellow represents the river Rio Grande that separates and the desired peace they wanted to make. I also learned a bit about the reverence behind the Young Lords… But that’s another post. ✊🏽 Go thru my IG highlights for more about Loiza 🇵🇷

This makes my blood BOIL! 🤬🤬🤬 They have ZERO respect for those who immigrate here, ZERO respect for those who are NATIVE to the land... who have more right to be here than them. ZERO respect for those who were FORCED to come here who built this country! Taunting an ELDER ( #NathanPhillips , a Native veteran!) ... this is HATE. They should be showing how GRATEFUL they are for the PRIVILEGE to be allowed to continue to occupy this land that was stolen for them. Instead they mock those from whose oppression they benefit. This is a generational hate that comes from overcompensation of masking guilt from knowing deep down that the only ones who truly have NO RIGHT to be in this land are the descendants of those who raped, murdered, enslaved and diseased their way into this land (and many who continue to do so). The fact that they were in town for an anti abortion march just ties in the fact that there is no separation of this weak desperate toxic “masculine” white supremacist patriarchal culture clinging on for dear life to their last days of power. It is our duty as human beings (ESPECIALLY OF YOU CLAIM TO LOVE JESUS) to end this toxic oppressive culture. ✊🏽😡 ( #repost video from @shaunking orig vid: @ka_ya11) FYI: the school they go to is @cch_colonels and their principal’s email is Этот адрес электронной почты защищён от спам-ботов. This the news we needed to kick off 2019! It’s not perfect and we still have a hard fight to protect women, especially women of color from sex trafficking and assault and so many intersectional aspects of this injustice. But THIS is what community looks like. This is the long game, years of hard core organizing (@blm_nashville and so many others!) coalition building, and prayer and campaigns. This is HUGE and a beacon of hope to movements to protect women of color against sex trafficking and incarceration and problematic policing ✊🏽🙏🏽 Let’s gooooooo!!! 🙌🏽🖤🙏🏽 Just the beginning.

Swipe to see more of Vieques, #PuertoRico ! With black sand beaches, soft white sand, crystal clear water, free roaming horses everywhere and the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world, it’s nothing short of MAGICAL. But it doesn’t take much to care and talk to locals and get a real, well rounded sense of life here. I didn’t even have to ask. People are still waiting for insurance since Maria. They joke, but it’s real. They closed the only dialysis center on Vieques. Dialysis patients are dying. (Check IG story). There’s a dark history of the U.S. testing bombs here and other things occupying this small island to the detriment of its ecological health. Poisoning people, destroying life. When I imagine how beautiful it must have been back then, I think “ how could anyone see this and think that this would be a great place to test destruction.” Even though the people on this island protested until they drove them out... no one was held accountable and I’m certain many of those people who made those decisions remain in power & their spirit & their policies continue to occupy this land and water. It may not exactly be bombs, it’s definitely policy, screwing up their education, lack of proper paying jobs, lowering their minimum wage, extracting resources. It’s vacationers with no care, consideration or investment in the people and the culture. It’s “our” government taking advantage every time there’s a crisis to hurt the island more for its own tax benefits. It’s lack of proper healthcare, and compounding ecological injustice. It’s all of the above. These are our people and we should be outraged and demand better for our people. If this were an island of white Americans... the story would be how quickly it was rebuilt and how safe of a community it is. And before you talk some bullshit about there is a white population on this island, research the problematic classifications of whiteness (many people including Latin, North African, Middle Eastern people are forced to check the “white” box who would never ever be considered white) in our census and our government & come here and see how many pre-Maria locals you find to be white. 👀

I have a dream that one day Black/Brown/Indigenous/Trans ppl will be as free as a naked white man punching an NYPD cop’s car with no consequences. Let’s get to work 🤷🏽‍♂️👊🏽✊🏽🖤 (Vid - #repost via @mattmcgorry vía @whatisnewyork 🙏🏽🖤👊🏽)

Alright... Yesterday’s pic - Answer: Took it on set of #Insecure while filming Coachella ep. in PALM SPRINGS, CA about 1.5-2 hrs (107 mi) from LA. No trick. Not LA 🤷🏽‍♂️😜 Swipe left to see convo w/ @joecola25 who gave permission to post - ONLY person to get it right!! Grateful cuz I didn’t want to spend my vacation sliding in yall’s DM’s all day & night. Or would I? 🤔😜😂 ••••••••• Another note: Ecological justice is ESSENTIAL to liberation of all people. That fight includes ending cruel & inhumane treatment of animals. I wholeheartedly believe in & have seen first hand the way Indigenous cultures kill an animal for food w/ compassion, gratitude, giving thanks and praise to the animal & Earth throughout the spiritual process, only taking what they need, using every part (incl. bones, hooves & hides) with no waste. It’s beautiful. One of the best perspectives I learned in 2018 was from Gopal Dayaneni (vía @favianna1) who taught me the term “ecological justice”. It deals with “home” & “life” & how all organisms relate. It doesn’t separate the fight for our Earth from the fight for people like “Climate justice” does. Too often ppl take on global warming & animal rights as causes because they feel it’s less controversial than human rights (esp racism). While it’s of utmost importance, it should NEVER be separate from the fight for the liberation of PEOPLE. Many (not all) but MANY people white wash the fight for ecological justice & would quickl post about a dog, whale, polar bear but ignore torture & murder of a PEOPLE. Theyre inseparable. I believe TOO MANY who fight for animals are absent when it comes to Black Lives, immigration rights, farm labor abuse, & indigenous people poisoned & murdered fighting for their land & water. Most important resource we’re losing is language, culture, PEOPLE: very ones who hold the best knowledge to save Mother Earth. That said, I do believe ppl (esp white ppl) have a history of prioritizing animals over Black/Brown/Indigenous/Trans ppl. I think the comparison is offensive. As essential as ending animal cruelty is, animal rights will never be equal to NOR separate from the liberation and genocide of human beings. Full stop. 🛑🙏🏽✊🏽

Fun story: got picked up by a driver named ISSA in #PuertoRico. The universe is hilarious. (No I didnt get in any fights 😏). Anyway.. still in 2018, still utilizing these hours to accomplish some goals. There’s still time! Don’t rush my life! 😂 it ain’t 2019 yet! For one... trying to get this melanin in check after a month and some change with very little sun in Canada (this is an old pic) 🤷🏽‍♂️ But for real tho... still got 2018 💩 to do 😏 I’ll slide in your DMs if you can figure out in what city I took this pic - in the comments (don’t let the location tag fool you) 😜

I love the revolutionary spirit and the beauty here in Puerto Rico. The proud #indigenous, #Afrolatinx and #Latinx identities despite U.S. efforts of compound colonization. I’m not so happy to see so many white people here (and others... but esp. white ppl) oblivious or not to the problems here, just seeking to take advantage and maybe do a little charity donation to check off of their “do good” list and get a tax write off. The US is literally taking advantage of this wonderful island once again to buy foreclosed homes, take advantage of tax breaks and cheap labor while denying its own citizens here the proper recovery aid it needs. They are starving this island in order to take advantage of it. 😡 Please also amplify and check my bio and share this problem of missing women here in #PuertoRico. 🇵🇷✊🏽 (photo cred: 📸 @ismaelcruzcordova)

Happy Birthday Jesus! Let’s get creative y’all! Today is about service. 🙏🏽🖤✊🏽 Don’t forget who Jesus was, whether you believe He was the Son of God or not, He is an historical figure and at the very least a wonderful human being who dedicated His life to service as an activist, a liberator, an organizer, a true leader and not to mention a brown skin refugee fleeing violence and persecution. And one important thing I forgot: a community builder. He set a beautiful example of uplifting the most vulnerable. Let’s continue that legacy 🙏🏽✊🏽🖤 The best present you can give today is service. Get creative. Uplift those who are most vulnerable. Make a commitment or renew your commitment to being a catalyst for good in every situation. Make a video. For those of you who don’t know why this is such a huge deal: Latin is an ethnicity not a race. You can be 100% white and 100% Latinx at the same time, 100% black and a 100% latinx at the same time. Indigenous people are the brown blood and appearance that makes up the majority of the Americas. They are also disproportionately oppressed (historically stripped of their culture) and underrepresented along with Black Latinx, and largely invisible, stereotyped, criminalized and insulted in media. There is a huge colorism problem: the closer to white/European (Spanish) you are, the more “beautiful” you are considered to be and more opportunity, life and health you are afforded just like in the United States. So to have an indigenous woman on the cover of @voguemexico is monumental. And she’s from one of my favorite places in the world, Oaxaca, Mexico, very proud beautiful Indigenous and Black communities there where I spent arguably the best month of my life. I’m so excited to wake up and see an indigenous Mexican woman on the cover of @VogueMexico… This is iconic. This is México.

  • Kendrick Sampson

JONRÓN!!! (aka Home Run... 😂😜 this little alcoholic Capri Sun gave me a good laugh) I think my favorite day in Puerto Rico had to be in Loiza. I took a tour, with @karloxchef as my guide, whose family is from there and who has studied the history. And it still remains beautifully BLACK 🖤🖤🖤. And the yellow represents the river Rio Grande that separates and the desired peace they wanted to make. I also learned a bit about the reverence behind the Young Lords… But that’s another post. ✊🏽 Go through my IG story for more about Loiza and Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷

{Swipe} Yall I took a different adventure yesterday and spent a day at the Ritz Carlton @doradobeachreserve and its... unbelievable. I walked through the expansive property taking pictures... 😳🙌🏽 Spent hours at the private beach, the spa, pools, private beach, food, golf course etc 🙌🏽 and it’s only like 30 min from San Juan but it feels like you’re in a another world. #RCReserve #DoradoBeachReserve

Find this murderer and bring him to justice. Proud of my hometown #Houston for the sense of community built around the family. It’s now a $100,000 reward 🙏🏽✊🏽 Let’s do this. 1st pic: #repost @shaunking Jazmine’s father sent me this sweet picture of her with her friends. I’m up. Can’t sleep. Studying every lead and tip. It’s almost been a week since she was murdered and nothing. This is outrageous. We have a $100,000 reward for info leading to the arrest of her killer. ✊🏽🙏🏽

My #Houston fam: All jokes aside, once again: I’m devastated. Please do all that you can to find this man and bring him to justice! There’s a $25,000 reward. Swipe to see the only pic of his truck. Unfortunately below is all the info I have and her mother is still in the hospital. Hate to put this on you on the first day of 2019 but I hate so much more that this happened and my Love is too strong to ignore. 😞✊🏽 #repost @shaunking : “URGENT. ALL HANDS ON DECK. ‬ ‪A 40 year old white man w/ a beard in a red pickup truck pulled up on 7 year old Jazmine Barnes and her family near a Houston @Walmart and shot and killed her and injured others. ‬ ‪I am joining the search for her killer and have a $25,000 reward.‬ ‪Need him NOW.‬ I’ve talked directly with the family and they are devastated beyond words. #2019mood 💯👊🏽😂 on so many levels! Naked in the street. True equity and liberation...

Tag me in your gift suggestions or comment below. #merrychristmas #HappyBirthdayJesus
