“I just love the lighting in that scene. I look so shredded.” - @robertdowneyjr. I had the crazy opportunity to stand in front of the Avengers: Endgame cast and ask about the post-snap dusting sequences in Avengers: Infinity War. Specifically, what Downey Jr. remembered about filming the scene when @tomholland2013 turns to dust post-snap. Downey is referencing a famous line from his “Tropic Thunder” when he talks about being shredded. 😂😂😂 #avengersendgame (*swipe left - 3 videos) @therussobrothers Video steady by: @brandondavisbd Video shaky by: @kevinmccarthytv

Legend. This was a surreal moment for me. I’ve spent a lot of my career talking to filmmakers about their brilliant usage of Alan Silvestri’s scores. From talking to Spielberg at “Ready Player One” about Silvestri’s brilliant career from “Fandango” to “Back to the Future”, it was surreal to stand across from him and just talk movies. I recently had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Zemeckis and geek out about Silvestri as well. Hearing Silvestri just say the names Zemeckis or Spielberg in our conversation was beyond thrilling. It didn’t feel real to me. Just talking film scores with this legend who has musically shaped my life in a huge way. And obviously his “Avengers” theme is one of his masterpieces. When you hear that epic Avengers theme (that I’m now whistling as I type this), know that this genius is the mastermind behind it. And more recently with his scores for the @therussobrothers’ “Avengers: Infinity War”, his theme for Thanos is pure brilliance. It’s haunting and just sets such a mood as Thanos delivers his thought-provoking dialogue as Silvestri’s score growls underneath him in the most sinister way. It makes you feel dirty, gross yet oddly sympathetic and understanding of his insane intentions. Almost makes you want to make a mean face. When you layer that theme with an actors’ performance, you have the audience right in the palm of your hands. I’ve always said that a film score is one of the leading emotional characters of any film. The score sets the tone for the scene and emotionally takes us on this journey where we suspend our disbelief and fall into this world created by a filmmaker and so many wonderfully talented individuals. 😂😂😂 Shout-out to @cinemahooked for this hilarious meme. This was the moment from my Avengers: Endgame interview with the @therussobrothers when Joe Russo told me that the Iron Man/Cap scene from the trailer “isn’t” in the final film. I had set up, very emotionally by the way, how excited I was for that scene in the trailer and then Joe Russo just completely Keyser Soze’d me. My question was about how it felt emotionally to be behind the camera filming that scene. I was hoping for a great answer about how that felt to direct that moment. And then that happened. Haha. It’s the scene when Tony says “Do you trust me?” And Cap says “I do.” I think Anthony was just as surprised as I was when Joe said that. If you watch the video (link in my profile) you’ll see Joe jokingly going back and forth that it might be in the movie. Essentially, toying with my emotions. And if I’m looking at their Instagram profile picture correctly, it looks like the Russo’s made their profile picture an image from that moment in the interview. 😂😂 #dontspoiltheendgame 4 days...We’re in the Endgame now.

🤘A photo over 20 years in the making. Full circle and completely surreal. When I was about 14 or 15, my parents took to Bay Days (I’m almost certain that’s what it was called) in Hampton, VA and I saw this incredibly heavy band, Hatebreed, performing on-stage and immediately fell in love with their sound and breakdowns. I always loved heavy music (first Korn record was one of my favorites at the time - “Ball Tongue” still hits so hard) but I hadn’t been introduced to something as hardcore as Hatebreed. After the show, I met @jameyjasta and I actually bought their album, “Satisfaction is the Death of Desire” from his car. I’ll never forget it because he had boxes with “Under the Knife” and that record. I chose to buy the Satisfaction album because it had more songs on it. I immediately became a fan. The whole band signed the cd cover for me and I’ve kept it ever since. Years later, I started following Jamey on social media and we eventually started talking about movies. If you’ve seen the film “xXx” with Vin Diesel, you’ve heard their awesome track “I Will Be Heard” in the sequence when Diesel is snowboarding. Jamey recently reached out to me and asked if I would stop by the venue when his 25th anniversary tour came to DC/Maryland and join him on his podcast to talk about movies. We had an awesome discussion about all things music, film and more. Such a great guy. One of the most interesting things we talked about was the stereotypical mindset people have about heavy metal music; especially with a band named Hatebreed where people just assume it’s all negativity because Jamey screams. It’s actually the complete opposite and many of their songs really have a positive message about overcoming obstacles in life, love and more. In fact, I’ve met some of the nicest people in the world at heavy metal shows. This was truly an honor and I had to bring the CD cover with me from over-20 years ago for this photo. 🤘

That random moment when Kathleen Kennedy joins you at the throne for a photo. Kennedy has produced some indie films. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - The Last Jedi - The Rise of Skywalker - Back To The Future trilogy - Poltergeist - Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom - Indiana Jones and the The Last Crusade - Gremlins - The Goonies - Money Pit - The Color Purple - Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Arachnophobia - Jurassic Park - Hook - The Sixth Sense - The Lost World - Signs - Munich - Schindler’s List - Benjamin Button - The BFG - Rogue One Just to name a few. This was such an insane story. We were at an AT&T store in Chicago to get a photo at the Game of Thrones throne. All of a sudden a guy name Caleb came over to say hi because he listens to the ReelBlend podcast I do with @jakestakes & @sean_oconnell33. So I wanted to record a video for the guys and during the video we were talking about being in Chicago for Star Wars Celebration and all of a sudden Kathleen Kennedy walks up being Caleb and says that she is also there for Star Wars Celebration! Haha. She was so nice. Talked about the new trailer and more. She was there to take a photo on the throne because the creators of GOT are doing a new Star Wars trilogy next. ❤️🎥🎞

We’re in the Endgame now. Two of the greatest filmmakers working today who brought my three favorite MCU films to the big screen. From the epic practical bridge fight sequence in Winter Soldier to the airport scene in Civil War to Thor’s entrance into Wakanda in Infinity War...Anthony and Joe Russo are the masters of balancing incredible action with important storytelling structure. The pacing of Infinity War was masterful as they juggled dozens of characters flawlessly to a point where every single frame of that film mattered. There wasn’t a single wasted moment. Always an honor to sit down with the @therussobrothers. ❤️🎥🎞

And now through the magic of cinema, this story will be opened to so many more audiences. ❤️🎥🎞

⚡️My interview with Zachary Levi for Shazam! (*swipe left - 6 videos) 1) How he practically had to film the super-speed moments. 2) How the lighting on the suit helped with cinematography of a scene and the wiring in the suit to achieve the practical lightening bolt. 3) Possibility of a Chuck movie 4) Crazy coincidence of his character, Shazam, also having the name of Captain Marvel. 5) The death of the Floss dance. @zacharylevi #shazam ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Just saw the film again for a second time and it was INCREDIBLE. @ponysmasher achieves an almost impossible tone that balances comedy, horror, drama and beautifully grounded material. Hey @therock, here’s my audition tape to be your stunt double. I’ll wait for your call for Hobbs & Shaw 2. Sitting by the phone now. Joking aside, major shout-out to all the amazing stunt performers who risk their lives for our entertainment across all media platforms. Many of these amazing performers don’t get the praise and respect as they are behind-the-scenes making the actors we see look awesome. To this day, I’m still blown away that the Academy Awards doesn’t have an Oscar award for stunts. This video was from today at Six Flags in Bowie, Maryland. Craig (@putman_the_stuntman) is the performer you see there making it look like I’m kicking his a**, when really he’s just performing in such a way that it looks real. Craig is the live action stunt coordinator for the new show at Six Flags, “Battle In The Badlands.”

We are deep in the middle of a Game of Thrones binge leading up to the 8th season premiere. So much so that Lauren bought these awesome shoes for us. Shout-out to my wife for getting online at exactly 10am last Friday and getting these right when they went on-sale. I thought for sure the White Walkers were going to be gone in half a second. The weekend we were on-stage with Heisenberg and then met Kylo Ren & Felicity! (swipe left for photos and a video) Big shout-out to my wife for being the most creative, selfless and thoughtful person I’ve ever met. For my birthday, Lauren surprised me with a trip to NYC to see Bryan Cranston’s latest broadway show, Network. Now, I just thought we were going up to see the show and that was enough for me. When we arrived at the theatre, I learned that Lauren somehow bought tickets for us to watch the show on-stage. This meant that we sat at a bar on the stage before and during the show meaning that Bryan Cranston was hanging out on-stage prior to the show while getting make-up/hair and preparing for the show. To our right was Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany stretching before getting hair and make-up before the show. Considering Breaking Bad is our favorite show of all time, it was surreal sitting at a bar during the show where a scene took place 10 feet in front of us with Bryan Cranston and Tony Goldwyn. The show itself was absolutely brilliant and scary timely. Then, Lauren also bought tickets to see Adam Driver and Keri Russell in Burn This later that night. We sat up in the balcony for the show and I had zero clue what to expect in regards to story and performances. Driver and Russell had brilliant chemistry and were awesome enough to come out to the stage door after the show to sign our playbills and briefly chat. It was surreal shaking hands with Driver knowing he knows how Episode 9 will end. Just wanted to say thank you to my wife and I’m beyond grateful to have you in my life. Love you. ❤️🎥🎞

From all of “Us”. This was such a surprise today at work. My friends/co-workers at #GoodDayDC knew today was my birthday & that my favorite film of 2019, so far, was also hitting theatres. Major shout-out to the amazing @SugaChef for this incredible work! Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Saying Us is a masterpiece is an absolute understatement. The film is beyond rewarding on multiple viewings as you become almost an investigator looking for all the amazing clues, metaphors and Easter eggs that Peele has planted throughout the film. Like Get Out, the multiple viewings of the film are even more mind-blowing experiences. Lupita Nyong’o’s performance is masterful along with every single actor in the cast. The emotional journey you are taken on is incredibly immersive as Peele beautifully balanced horror with splashes of comedy. Cinematography, soundtrack and score are all masterclass level work. This is a brutal horror film on the surface. Directly below is a genius work of social commentary about privilege, our country and so much more. We are lucky to be witnessing this type of filmmaking as Peele trusts that his audience is smart. I’ve seen it twice now and going for round 3 next week. ❤️🎥🎞 #UsMovie ✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️

Dear 15-year-old me, Pause your El Mariachi/Desperado double feature DVD & watch this video of 34-year-old you being directed by Robert @Rodriguez in a performance-capture action sequence! Oh and this is a social media platform called Instagram and you can only post videos a minute at a time so you have to swipe left left after each video for all 3 videos. Love, Kevin P.S. Message for James Cameron. Since you just joined Instagram (@jamescameronofficial), I wanted to tell you that Terminator 2 changed my life. I saw it when I was 8-years-old and it is truly the reason that I love filmmaking as much as I do. It was the first movie that made me say wow and “how did they do that?!?” One of my dreams is to one day meet you and geek out about that film. To this day, I firmly believe the special effects in that film look better than some modern day movies. The shot of the T-1000 (@ripfighter) coming up from the floor to become the security officer in the hospital! (Always loved to hear that the security officers were twin brothers). The shot when Arnold @schwarzenegger shoots T-1000’s face and it splits and comes back together before the epic elevator fight! And Arnold’s smile scene in the special edition is genius. Also, I need True Lies on Blu-Ray immediately. One of my all-time favorite actions films. “You’re fired.” Congrats on Alita: Battle Angel. Rodriguez is an incredible director and great choices with Junkie XL and Bill Pope. Full 27-min interview and performance-capture direction/scene link in my bio. Rodriguez and I talk Sin City, Desperado, Grindhouse, El Mariachi and more. #alitabattleangel Hey @andyserkis, did I do ok?!? When I was a kid, I wanted to be a magician. This makes sense to me now considering how much I fell in love with the process of filmmaking and learning the magic tricks filmmakers use to bring stories to the big screen. The movie that sparked that love was Terminator 2 and the specific sequence was watching Robert Patrick’s T-1000 rise up from the floor to double the security officer in the hospital. Years later I would learn those security guards were actually twins. I loved magic so much as a kid that my parents took me to see David Copperfield when I was a teenager. I even used to have my own magic box and I would card tricks on friends. If I remember correctly, the show was at the Richmond Coliseum and my parents gave me the tickets for birthday in a little box. I remember being handed the box and thinking to my spoiled teenage self, “this is my birthday present?!?”...little did I know the tickets to my favorite magician were inside. That was years ago when I was a teenager so to see him live again and then meet him was surreal. Incredible show with a surprising emotional tone mixed with insane illusions. Felt like watching a film take place on a stage. Insane practical effects including some crazy animatronics. ❤️🎥🎞

Jackson & Ally. Lauren and I went to see Lady Gaga’s Enigma show in Vegas last night and then this happened... Craziest part was that Bradley Cooper was sitting right behind us with Todd Phillips the entire show. Randomly, I was wearing my Jackson Maine shirt and then the jacket that I had for my Star is Born Halloween costume. At one point, he was cool enough to stop and say hi to Lauren and me during the the middle of the show. At the end of the show, Gaga had just finished “Born This Way”, sat down at the piano and looked in our direction asking Cooper to come on-stage and sing with her. It felt like the exact opposite of the “Shallow” moment in A Star is Born seeing Gaga at her own show bringing up someone to the stage to sing. ❤️🎥🎞 #astarisborn

Happy Birthday to a very special person in my life. Allison has always been there for me and I’m just so lucky to have a friend like her in this business. A wonderful anchor, person and mother. It’s always an honor to work with Allison every morning on TV. I hope you have the best day and thanks for all your amazing positivity. The world is a better place with you in it. ❤️

I sat down with Anthony & Joe Russo to discuss Avengers: Endgame. (*swipe left - 7 videos) 1) Josh Brolin sent me a fan question for the Russo Brothers. 😈 2) Finishing the film the night before this interview and how they celebrated with Infinity stone cupcakes. 3) Storytelling importance of the epic bridge scene in Winter Soldier to the airport scene in Civil to Thor’s Wakanda entrance in Infinity War. 4) How they would direct Deadpool with their Avengers cast. 5) First scene they ever shot in Winter Soldier. 6) Filming the Endgame trailer moment of Iron Man and Captain America. “Do you trust me?” “I do.” 7) I get Keyser Soze’d. cc: @joshbrolin @vancityreynolds @therussobrothers #avengersendgame

The Boss right after he walked off stage. #tbt to 2014. Posting again because I saw an incredible film last night called “Blinded By The Light.” Such a special movie with a beautiful full-circle true story. The film is set to the music of Bruce Springsteen and I just fell madly in love with it. A film that truly proves the universal power and magic of music.

Absolutely loved it. And it was awesome seeing @hhgarcia41 @therock & @danygarciaco in the credits! Congrats to everyone involved. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
  • Kevin McCarthy

As for the show itself, Lauren has seen all 7 seasons. I had already seen seasons 1-4 when they originally aired so we are both re-watching the whole show together. About to start episode 7 of season 4. #gameofthrones ❄️

Jordan Peele and I sat down for “Us” (✂️swipe left - 9 videos) 1) Shared universe with Get Out? 2) Getting Spielberg’s approval for Jaws reference. 3) Importance of a leading character wearing a Howard University shirt. 4) Achieving that brilliant shadows shot on the beach as the four leading characters have massive shadows walking beside them. 5) Significance of “I Got 5 On It” in the film. 6) How Peele achieved the shots with the doppelgängers appearing in the same shot as their selves. 7) Burying clues for multiple viewings and more.

🤘Happy Birthday to my awesome father who took me to my first concert when I was 13. That show was Metallica and Corrosion of Conformity at the Hampton Coliseum. Fast-forward to 2017, we went to a soundcheck pre-show event for a Metallica show at M&T Bank Stadium. We arrived early and James Hetfield was just walking around the stage checking it out. He was awesome enough to talk to us and pose for this picture. ❤️🤘(Birthday was yesterday)

Just two dudes rockin’ green tuxes. Strangely enough, Winston Duke and I took this photo shortly after Jordan Peele’s masterful US trailer dropped. I had watched it so many times so I had so many questions about the filmmaking regarding the process of the doppelgänger shots. Can’t wait for that film. Lauren and I, along with our dog Oscar, have been watching Oscars coverage since 2pm. Cinema is life for us. This is our Super Bowl as we both watch well over 150 films a year. Shoutout to the amazing people at 20th Century Fox for putting this all together.
