Coffee Cake Update: Good morning friends! Coffee went to see his amazing oncologist yesterday, Dr. Olgilvy. He took a better look at Coffee’s kidneys via ultrasound. He shared that Coffee’s kidneys appear exactly the same post chemotherapy, but explained that one kidney is working harder than the other. One of Coffee’s kidneys is smaller and weaker, therefore the healthier kidney is having to do the heavy lifting to process/clean Coffee’s blood. As a result, causing Coffee to have high blood pressure. The high blood pressure can cause kidney values to spike and that’s exactly what we saw here with our sweet boy. Coffee was prescribed blood pressure medicine and took it like a champ. This morning, he stole a bag of treats from downstairs and brought it to us in bed.... I think he’s feeling better already! We want to encourage everyone to ask their veterinarians to check your furry babies blood pressure when you go in for an annual exam. Not all vets do this and as you can see, it’s very important to check. High blood pressure can be easily managed, but if not caught right away, can have irreversible damage. As pet parents it out duty to be alert, aware, and proactive since our furry kids can’t speak for themselves. We are their voice. Hello to Coffee’s wonderful community! We want to share that Coffee’s blood work came back yesterday and his kidney values are unfortunately slightly elevated. A very healthy Coffee had kidney values at 1.8 and when he had cancer it was an 11. Yesterday’s results told us he was at a 3.0. Today we’re heading to see his amazing oncologist and we’ll be doing an ultrasound to get a better look at his kidneys. We believe that early detection is everything and want to always provide the best for our sweet boy. Today Coffee ate a very yummy breakfast at 4:00am and has since been fasting in preparation. He is in a great mood, playful, and appears to be very happy and healthy. We’ll update you as soon as we have something to share. Thank you all so much for being here with us every step of the way. We welcome all of your prayers, positive thoughts, and love. We are eternally grateful to have you all by our side. WE LOAF YOU! - Coffee’s moms ❤️
