What makes it ‘Hollywood’ is the frieze of mismatched portraits of celebrities like Humphrey Bogart , Marilyn Monroe and John Stamos. People meet there to eat cheap, eat fast, or to pour their hearts out. New Yorkers don’t really care if someone is listening, though a true New Yorker is good at pretending they’re not eavesdropping.. The ecology of a place like that is so fragile. #InstantDecorator 2001, My new little book published by @nazraeli.press. I made these collages with my kids right after 9/11 when we all stayed home. I couldn’t go to my studio near ground zero . I had a ‘how to’ decorating book given to me as a gift by @jerrysaltz . We started pasting fabrics and photos and all kinds of stuff directly in the decorating book. I remember the day she came home from the hospital in my grandparents blue and white Buick. Instead of wrecking my 31/2 year old life she made it so much more fun and interesting and exciting. She was always a healer and a dispenser of psychological comforts. Of course she grew up to be a Doctor. I wake up everyday grateful to be safe for now. GREAT to see a show with works that were so influential - had such a profound effect on my art student friends and me. That’s a naked #ScottBurton (one of my all time favorite artists) in a Sylvia Sleigh painting. Tina Girourd’s wallpaper turned up in my 1976 photos ( I was a teenage copycat) and Miriam Schapiro’s and Sherrie Brody’s 1972 dollhouse sculpture from Woman House -well say no more... I put on music and they danced and kind of forgot I was there... I shot pictures of them for hours. My big regret? I didn’t have a video camera. They were married for over 50 years and always danced alone in the living room 🧡💛 #FromLSarchive

The pair, who run the Newark art nonprofit Project for Empty Space, teamed up with four organizers, including the artists Marilyn Minter and Laurie Simmons, and put out a call for works. In the time it took them to plan the show, Republican-led states passed more abortion restrictions — 59 total in 2019. Early this month, 207 members of Congress signed a legal brief urging the Supreme Court to consider overturning two landmark rulings that ensure abortion access. The exhibition can’t stop any of this, but it’s an energizing rallying cry. It’s also laudable for just being a good art show.
