I’ve always been inspired by the French salons of the 1920’s. Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, Sylvia Beach and Adrienne Monniere and many others opened their homes to groups of authentic thinkers, creators and dreamers to “please and educate” through food, wine, conversation and connection. I’m creating this space at my home to reflect those ideas. It will house my library that I’ve been building since I was 15. Though I’ve always been partial to female authors (particularly French) I’m open to expanding. I enjoy writers who are lean and masculine in their approach but watery, passionate and feminine in their desire and expression. Please send me ideas of authors I may like to add to my collection. My doors are open to invite new guests inside my dream. 📽 @amandademme

The word “renovation” comes from the Latin root “to make new again” and in the 15th Century “renovacyoun” meant “spiritual rebirth”. Many generations of Bello’s have “made new again” - buildings, hearts and dreams. I am blessed to start renovating my new home, starting with the salon, with my two brothers Joe and Chris. And yes, you don’t need to tell me how lucky I am that I have two brothers who are contractors! I hear renovating can be a nightmare. But “spiritual rebirth” can be a nightmare as well. For those of you who know me - I’m a design nerd. Give me @fixeruppershow with chipgaines @joannagaines any night of the week. Who doesn’t love an “open concept kitchen” or cute laundry room by @magnolia ??? Well I now have the great privilege of redesigning my own special space with my bro Chris. Today @longbeachantiquemarket I collected some pretty things that will go into my ultimate play room. Now the question is - after you look at what i bought - what sort of space do you think I’m designing??? Close friends do not answer! 😘

I got my joy back! It used to take 3 months of being on the floor but now it takes only 3 days. Remarkable. I’ve been on my knees - feeling the deep despair that comes from disappointing another and disappointing myself. But i let myself grieve and blame and i hold myself close to those that i love and who love me. My friends and family are the barometers for who i am. What I realize is that no one or no circumstance can tell you who you are. You decide. I enter relationship as I exist in them - good hearted, kind, wanting only the best. And I choose that still. #gotoyourjoy

1 in 10 homeless people are veterans. Causes vary but many report physical or mental disability. #ptsd is a particularly prevalent diagnosis among the homeless vet community. Some organizations I’ve researched seem to be doing great work in the area. I’ve learned a lot from ncvh.org I always lean into donating at local community based organizations who are truly doing the work. Also @mapsnews is doing some cutting edge research on MDMA assisted therapy for vets with PTSD. I’ve got no answers but sure like getting info. This beautiful gang and I were talking about why @ncis_cbs is still the number one television drama after 17 seasons. What we surmised is this - we share the same values and those values start with Love. We all understand that we are part of a larger system. 250 people work tirelessly 10 and a half months a year to make this show what it is. And it’s incredible that they all still want to be here. Many of our crew have been here all 17 seasons. The group has journeyed through births and deaths and marriages and divorces. It’s afforded more than a thousand kids to go to college. And it never fails that everyday walking onto this set, there is a smile on everyone’s face. There is an acknowledgement from the caterers to producers to transpo guys to actors and all that we are on the same team. We are a family. We are in it together. You really see who your friends are when the shit hits the fan. This crew - especially Frank Cardera, Mark Horowitz, Steve Binder, Mark Schilz, Charles Johnson, Rachel Good, Annie Cardera, Shasti Sharpe, Carla Dean and my cast - have had my back in a huge way the last couple of months and I am so grateful. Values in a family come from the top and seep into the fabric of a system. #markharmon is the top and his love and generosity inspire us all. Thank you to our fans for visiting our family every week. I was pretty burnt when I got to @miravalresorts this week. Grateful to have had some time to fill up the tank and recharge. As women in particular, we tend to do it all and TOO MUCH because we CAN. I’m watching #americanfactory on @netflix My pop worked at the steel mill in Conshohocken, Pa where I was born. I’m a worker at heart and have so much admiration for the men and women that work on the line. Without their dedication and focus - we got nothing. So how will we support our manufacturing community in the US? Sure, the employment rate is good but lots of folks are making half of what they made 3 years ago. How does one support a family? How do we do this together? Let’s recreate factories that pay a living wage and output goods that sustain and improve the generations to come. #unions

So, my sister love @camrynmanheim is running for treasurer of our actors union... along with @gabriellecarteris who I’ve known and admired for years, having served on committees with her for gender equality in our business. These women are real social activists. Cam not only comes from a long line of social activists, but is the person in my life who I trust with getting practical shit done that I don’t pay attention to. Both these folks are honest, honorable and will do for our union what is best for the team. College move in day in NYC was not what I expected. I’m not a puddle on the floor suffering from overwhelming, unnecessary worry. I’m absolutely joyful. It’s not like i won’t miss the hell out of my boy (and best roommate of all times), but I’m certain that we will always support each other in being butterflies. Also, I’m here for the whole weekend so don’t have to do the actual good-bye til Sunday. (At which point I will most likely be a puddle on the floor:). But maybe not. Maybe we can feel the loss and grief and fear of change deeply and still shout to the Universe “Hey, I trust you!” I trust you. Go to your Joy 😊

Please notice the lit up top floor in the background. It’s a room of video games, loud tv, smelly socks, Taki’s chips and young people’s secrets. For some years that room has been a sanctuary to many teenage boys. For many years I have gone back there interrupting their discourse to say “please turn the noise down or the neighbors will call the cops”. (But also “can I get you something to eat?”). Now tonight, I sit here listening and watching, only to remember this moment. The moment that brought me to running up those stairs just now to say “Boys - please listen to me as it’s the last time you might ever hear these words - please turn the noise down AND I’m really going to miss saying that.” And we all laughed and smiled to acknowledge... oops... my son and three others just exited the cave to get water and on the way said hi... (I won’t forget that moment). As my roommate of 18 years and 9 months leaves for college in two days, I’m really savoring these moments.
