Today I’m thinking about what a pleasure it is to love people. When folks allow us to love them - it’s the greatest gift that just keeps giving. My son lights me up and I love to cook for him. My friends make me laugh. A lot. My family is steady and kind. My love is alive and present and open. For these things I’m so grateful. #whateverloveislove

I’m thinking of Grace today. And what a divine privilege it is to be a mother. The greatest gift of my life is getting to be @jackson_mcd mom. To all of you Moms out there Happy Mothers Day. Even in the hard moments, which come with the territory, may we always remember to love fiercely and kindly. I love you son and thank you for choosing me to be your Mama. ❤️

The wind was blowing hard in LA today. Hard enough to make Marilyn’s skirt fly up. (I held mine down as not to have a full blown crotch shot). Here’s the thing about strong winds - they pass. They come and go, surprising us with their power. We can either turn our face to the sky and feel the glorious breeze or we can shrink. My face is towards the sky today and I hope that you will feel it’s beauty as well. #waves #razorsedge #beautyandterror

I made a commitment to someone I care for deeply to find beauty everyday. So as we were filming @ncis_cbs in downtown LA yesterday, I stopped by the @thebroadmuseum to stand once again for 45 seconds in the #kusama infinity room. Here’s what I envisioned in those few seconds - my heart exploding into a thousand butterflies that took flight, the vastness of the world, the green grass and golden light of the Masai Mara, Paris in the Springtime, Happy Feet, the responsibility of my joy, earth, space, groundedness, the gigantic capacity that has opened in me to give and receive love, desire, skin, fire that ignites but does not burn, a cabin above a magical sea, two children holding hands and laughing on the beach barefoot and in Love and Death is when we are truly living. That’s A LOT for 45 seconds! #kusama moves me deeply and expands my heart and vision with her beauty. Hope you find your own beauty today.

On the day of my 52nd birthday I would like to wish you all Expansiveness - of your hearts and minds and souls. I wish for you to feel your pain and joy so deeply that your heart is forced to grow softer instead of brittle. I wish for you Big Love - after all, it only comes once or twice in a lifetime if we are lucky - so when it does Jump. I wish for you that you use your super power called Vulnerability - it makes you more powerful the more you use it. I wish for you to live deeply, authentically and honestly and to trust the Grace that is yours. I wish you kindness and Joy and that you will dance everyday. And most of all I wish you Love. Here’s to the mystery of being Alive...

So proud of these second generation actors living out loud! They are so authentically themselves and alive in every moment. The curtain has closed on #ThisIsOurYouth but the experience we had together is indelible . Bravo guys! “Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” - Rob Siltanen. So happy to live with you on the #islandofmisfittoys. No place I’d rather be!

When I was sleeping on a mattress on the living room floor of a girl’s apartment back in the early ‘90’s in NYC - I made a commitment to do one thing no matter what and no matter how much money I had. I decided to always buy flowers for myself. The corner deli flowers at the time were $3 a bunch, a stretch for me then, when I often walked 50 blocks as didn’t have money for a subway. But because I decided having BEAUTY around me everyday was as important as anything, it changed my life. Walking up Columbus Ave one sunny day, carrying a bunch of yellow tulips, a man stopped me with, “Hey, those flowers for me?” I looked at the man and for some reason said “Yes” and went to hand him my flowers. That Yes changed my life. He laughed and we got to talking - yes, of course I want to be an actress, no I don’t know a soul - and this funny kind guy said - here’s my buddy’s number, I will call him for you he’s a manager, and here’s the best acting teacher in nyc, go see him and tell him I sent you, and... It was because of him and that step I took to invest in beauty that my career was started. I was reminded of it today when for no reason at all @debbonayer and I decided to wander around the #laflowermarket We were bursting with joy at the color, and sites and sounds and it showed me once again that it is in the in between moments, when we are not striving or searching, but just BEING and appreciating enthusiastically the beauty around us that we are lead to a greater destiny than we could have imaged. I wish for all of you beauty everyday even when it isn’t pretty outside. I wish for you the simple pleasure of laughing with a friend. Buy yourself some flowers this weekend just because you are truly, deeply loved even if you forget for a minute. And thank you #paulieherman wherever you are.

Top 7 reasons Sundance Film Fest was the best ever this year - @nisha.ganatra sold her brilliant funny film Late Night for 13m, against all odds that a movie starring a woman over 50 and a woman of color had an audience. 41% of movies chosen by @sundanceorg were directed by women. Communing with the kind and brilliant @davidoyelowo @cassianelwes and @cameronpbailey supporting up and coming female directors at the Horizon Awards. The Women at Sundance lunch by @sundanceorg and @refinery29 inspiring us all with soul, vision and power. The Great Hack @netflix by @jehane11 and Karim Amir breaking open the story of the election hack. @gurinder.chadha masterpiece Blinded by the Light lit me up so much I danced in my chair! And number 1 and always - being with my joyful tribe of warrior women - Cathy, Geralyn, Suzanne, Teri, Kirstin, Allison, Brenda, Keri, Bruna, Jane and the lot of you TruthTellers/JoyBringers - thanks for the incredible grace in which you live the idea “finding joy in every moment”. #CuriosityandKindness are everything. #reallygoodhumans #sundancefilmfestival2019 #femalefilmmakers
Maria Bello
I just saw one the best films I’ve ever seen at the Sundance Film Festival! @gurinder.chadha incredibly uplifting Blinded By the Light rocked my world. @springsteen - this film is truly a love letter to you from humanity. I understand why being a Jersey girl you are the soundtrack of my life, but to watch a film based on a true story where a Pakistani British kid in the 80’s finds your music and turns out it is also the soundtrack of his life - well that’s just a whole other level of loving genius. Pure joy, generosity and fun. Human connection is everything. I can’t wait for the world to have this film! #reallygoodhumans #sundancefilmfestival2019 #bridgesnotwalls #femalefilmmakers

Great news! Mr. Batako got off last night and is safely back home in Togo. Officers Nkila and Cohen took him to the airport. A little follow-up since my last post - I had the pleasure of hanging out with these three guys yesterday. All is not what it seems. Two LAPD officers and a homeless man? Not that simple. See, Officer Nkila on the left is actually an immigrant from Morocco. Officer Cohen is an immigrant from Argentina. Mr. Batako is an accountant from Togo! All serve or served our country proudly and treat people with dignity. God Bless #reallygoodhumans
Maria Bello
Happy birthday @therealmariskahargitay Joy bringer, soul sister, inspirer. ❤️💃
Maria Bello
I met Officers Taoufik Nkila and Gabriel Cohen on January 9, 2019, at a 7-11 in West LA. Nkila and I began talking about the homeless issue in LA, and in particular my concern for homeless veterans. He shared the story with me of Mr. Batako, a Navy veteran, originally from Togo, Africa, who had served our country proudly but had been living on the streets of West LA for 5 years after being honorably discharged. Officer Nkila told me about a group he was a part of: LAPD’s “HOPE team” (Homeless Outreach Proactive Engagement) which was formed to treat homeless people with dignity, while also meeting the needs of communities living near make-shift shelters. Officer Nkila and his team meet homeless people everyday, but what struck them all about Mr. Batako was his genuine kindness and compassion for others in need. When they offered him services, he always referred them to someone else “more in need”. They heard his story and about his dream of going back to the place of his birth to see his family again. Mr. Batako had no passport or papers so some of the officers took it upon themselves to reach out to the embassy in DC to help him. It took some months and much work to secure his papers to get him back to his homeland. Mr. Batako‘s story in the US is now coming to a happy end and he will be going back home to Togo to find his own way due to the kindness of strangers in the LAPD. I’m in awe of Sergeant Padilla, Officers Nkila and Cohen and their friends. Simple human kindness from people who see the worst and best of what life has to offer everyday and help a fellow human to find his way home. Sgt Padilla’s HOPE Team is currently working with a partner, GoBEthe1 to end chronic and veteran homelessness. This organization will be putting together boxes for hygeniene and household items and they work solely on donations. Any support to the gofundme link below will help cover the cost of boxes and contribute to the purchase of items to fill them. https://www.gofundme.com/f/hvngpp-welcome-home @gobethe1 It will take a village to address the dire issue of homelessness in LA. Let’s join the good people in the fight and figure it out together.

“The dance is to find joy whenever you can.” @carrieannemoss This astounding woman has been my teacher and friend for over 23 years. We’ve seen each other birthing our precious babies and held each other as we sometimes painfully birth ourselves into motherhood. She took the spiritual path in life - going deep inside to mine the beauty of our collective souls. She is the real deal and her @fiercegracecollective is a powerful course that is truly transformative. Carrie-Anne reminds me to dance everyday, to find joy, to go easy on myself, to breathe and that the greatest gift I can give the world is to be entirely myself. Teaching a full moon lunar eclipse kundalini yoga class tonight, she filled me up with joy and possibility and reminded me of something one of our inspirations #marionwoodman said “in our creating, we are created”. I love you sister and thank you. 🙏

Before attending the #womensmarchla with this great crew today, I would have punched the white supremacist (who we encountered on the way out) in the teeth. However, my rage softened after cheering for the incredibly inspiring speakers and artists today so I just ended up promising I would pray for him for the rest of my life. Fuck. I blame my fate (because i challenge myself to keep promises) on the whole #loveistheanswer performance by @aloeblacc and the astonishing power of the rhythm of @mayajupiter and the truth speakers - @lavernecox @jennifersiebelnewsom @conniebritton @evanrachelwood and especially @pastorsmart50 @gaymenschorusla and @jayaharper All preaching inclusivity, love acceptance - May my heart stay soft even in the face of the evil that dude was trying to spread - thank you for the reminder. I think there should only be one rule to join the women’s march #NoAssholesAllowed.

Nine years ago this week, a tragic earthquake in Haiti killed more than 230,000 people. Meeting this glorious woman @lolosilvera was the biggest blessing for me to come out of that tragedy. I will never forget the days, weeks and months after, as a ragtag group of us travelled back and forth to the beautiful, broken island. We saw the best and the worst of what humanity was during that time. I will never forget the kindness of my fellow journeymen especially #FatherRickFrechette @alisonthompsonofficial @brynmooser @jphro @pattyarquette @donnakaranthewoman @artistsforpeace @drrezanabavian @paulhaggis I really do believe in a God that is good and hold onto the idea that beauty and grace can come out of the darkness. May 2019 be a year of endless possibility. May you know love and kindness and show love and kindness. May you know deep joy. May you walk softly and gracefully through the dark spaces which will always come. May you dance ecstatically through the light. Always remember to dance. Find your theme song for the year. Mine is the remix of You Don’t Own Me by Grace. It makes me walk differently when I hear it in my brain. It makes me smile. May this year bring you laughter and tears that grow your heart. Blessings for a happy new year to you and your loved ones. Blessings to our beautiful country - the right and the left in kind. Blessings to the greater world. We’ve only got this one precious life - let’s be brave and love each other.

I’ve had a steep uphill climb in 2018 and happy to finally be enjoying the view. Sometimes there is no way through it but through it so to get through it I read a lot of books and watched a lot of tv this year! Mostly stories by and about women. A sisterhood of women artists inspired me to laugh and feel through the darker spaces. I’d like to share them with you. My top tv shows of 2018 - @shesgottahave @mybrilliantfriend @clawstnt @insecurehbo @girlfriendsguidetodivorce @vida_starz #imsorrytv And the favorite books I’ve read this year - Between Two Worlds by Zainab Salbi. Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarity. Black Swans by Eve Babitz. Beneath the Lion’s Gaze by Maaza Mengiste. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante. Mistakes Were Made by Fiona Lewis. All the Detective D.D. Warren novels by Lisa Gardner. The Power by Naomi Alderman. Love and Ruin by Paula McLain. Thank you to the soulful women creators, writers actors and artists involved in all of these. Onward Gals!

Thank you to my soul sisters in Haiti who are continuing to rebuild their country @alexhippiechick @simbiatelier @cosmicbirdayiti And my dear @lolorestaucap My life would be lonely without you. Thank you my friend.
