This crispy rice is a masterclass in how mixing textures can elevate a simple, weeknight dinner to new and delicious levels. By giving the rice a few minutes in a hot skillet to form a crackly crust, you're creating little nuggets of crunch to disperse throughout the bowl. Leeks take on a buttery quality once cooked, melting into fluffy rice and crisp-tender asparagus. Lastly, an egg—fried just until the yolk can be used as a silky sauce—becomes the crown on top of a most excellent vegetarian rice bowl. Looking for a good weekend read? In our April issue, @marthastewart48 creates a spectacular cake for Easter—and shares how you can learn to do the same, too. "When I began thinking about Easter this year, I wanted to create a new twist on that cake, and worked with Living food editors @shirabocar and @lucullanfoods to plot a design based on my Bedford farm in spring. We would re-create the old spruce fencing that edges the paddocks, the drifts of daffodils, the gravel path that runs between my clipped boxwood hedging, and, to play up the holiday, add colored eggs to represent my annual Easter-egg hunt. The cake is deliciously tender, flavored with orange zest and almonds and frosted with a light buttercream." - Martha. "It feels elegant, but not too serious. A freestanding tub is our nod to a traditional farmhouse and oversized hanging pendants are an unexpected nod to the home's proximity to the ocean." Even the teenage girls' rooms were decorated with the overarching modern, coastal farmhouse concept in mind in this California home makeover. Interior designer @colleensimondsdesign's holy design trinity include open spaces, warmth, and saturated color. "I love blue," she says. "I wanted to bring the outdoors in." Varying degrees of it—from cornflower to delft to cerulean—flow from the polished yet kid-proof family room, which occupies a full half of the first floor, through the kitchen and down a breezeway leading to her design den. Artist's proofs by Henry and walls painted in Benjamin Moore Super White make a sharp backdrop for a deep blue Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams sofa and pillows made from Rogers & Gaffigon Myrddin fabric in Tourmaline. Molly Luethi and Kei Tsuzuki are the brains and guardian angels behind @keiandmollytextiles, a company with a cause. The pair quickly realized they shared a dream: to support the city's refugee and immigrant communities—10 percent of its population—through a for-profit social enterprise. After honing the production process, Luethi and Tsuzuki connected with area resettlement programs to hire refugees and immigrants for their nascent company. "A paycheck provides stability and opens the door to better health and better education," says Tsuzuki. Items are printed with water-based inks on natural fibers in their partly solar-powered studio. Today, the goods are sold in more than 400 stores around the country. Swipe the gallery and learn more in our March issue or at the link in bio. 👆🏼 #internationalwomensday 📷: @keiandmollytextiles
