Sebastian was crying and at one point as I was holding him I said without skipping a beat “ok my son” and at that point I realized how natural this all has become within a weeks time. Am I scared that I don’t know what I’m doing.. Of course! All I know is with his moms, all 3 sets of grandparents a tribe is raising this little guy and he’ll be fine. Also he has the best sneezes and he smells amazing, shout out to all the new moms and dads out there...ooof 😅😵❤️

I ate at this dinner a couple weeks ago under a giant windmill and still think about it. Thank you for the invite @methodhome / @gothamgreens, love the factory and you’re building on the south side.

Welcome to this beautiful weird blue world Sebastian Paul Purpura. A new part of my heart unlocked that I didn’t know existed. Watching Dre give birth... I have a new respect for life *that whole process is WILD 😍🤯 Baby and Mom’s are healthy / doing fine and now we rest for a moment 😂 Also Daddy??

Frost House Recap Part 2/2 Masha Potato (@crinklecutqueen) delivered an aspic birthday cake lite by flash flight for Eye Eaters Member @bergatron! An array of jello towers infused with @ketelone made by @hellojellochicago glowed upon a table made by @stolatisfab <3 Upside Down Pineapple cake rounded out the amazing meal prepared by Chef @zoeschor and her team. While others polished off cocktails crafted by @bitchfacegrace with glass straws from @haydesign! This was a day/night to remember. This whole dinner experience pushed us in ways we hadn’t known it would and so glad it did. Part 1: Frost House x Eye Eaters I would like to thank everyone who joined us for the @eyeeaters dinner at the @thefrosthouse! The experience was beyond our wildest imagination. When I thought about creating this gathering, the Frost House was the inspiration that guided the food and experience. With Cabana boys holding martinis upon arrival, mysterious fabulous house guest, a pool mermaid, and a flamboyance of lawn flamingos around the yard - it was a world of Mid-Century fun and imagination. Dear ____________, When your moms and I decided to create you, know it is all from love. You’ll be my first born and my family comes from a line of strong Black African Caribbean American men and woman. I never knew if I’d be so fortunate to help create a life and never knew life would manifest its way like this. Know that families come in all shapes and sizes and there are no rules to how a family is formed. Your moms are two of the most amazing women and when it comes to me, well you can call me whatever you’d like. Just know this, I’ll always be there for you and can’t wait for you to teach me all about life all over again. Looking forward to meeting you in the coming weeks. -p P.S. August 10, I’m throwing the next @eyeeaters dinner at The Frost House! @thefrosthouse The dinner will be inspired by the dinner parties and pool parties of the 60s. This house is unreal! Guest will be chartered from the city to the house. The only rule for guest is you’ll need a ticket (Eyeeaters.com) and all guest must summer white head to toe. *no patterns please.

Man of Color

Brown & Black hands have worth. What I earn; I deserve. Before I sign on to any project, I grapple with the following questions: Am I being put up for this job because I’m black and fulfill a quota? How many other people of color are working on this project or are up for this project? Will my likeness be used? How will I be portrayed? This is life as a black creative. There is a Wikipedia page entitled “List of African- American firsts.” It is at once both astonishing and upsetting. It stands as a symbol of all we’ve overcome and all that we have been denied. Generational wealth and knowledge that was not secured because of a legal system and society that refused to recognize the humanity of all its members. My hands are worth something. My ancestors were brought to this country against their will, and built vast amounts of wealth and infrastructure to the American Colonies. They were given “freedom,” as if enslavement was an honest mistake, and not an act of terrorism against a population. After the Civil War, my ancestors should’ve been given a plot of land and unfettered Civil Rights. They deserved to profit and take pride in the land that they tended to against their will. Instead they were given sharecropping, Black codes, and segregation. People say that reparations are unfair and unreasonable. I have a friend who recently inherited land that has been in her family since the 1800s. By virtue of my skin color, that story can never be mine. 264 years of wealth & land ownership, unable to pass from one generation to the next. Unfair and unreasonable. When I was young, my mom always reminded me “You will need to work ten times harder than your white peers & always be beyond your best behavior. You will never be given the benefit of the doubt.” I think about these words every day. Determining my value as a black creative- its never a simple question. My hands are worth more than you think. I think nothing but the world of them and how they are changing the Chicago creative landscape.
