So this little munchkin turns 6 today and even though she ignores all IG posts about her (she's too busy to interact with fans) I thought I'd share a pic of her Fluffiness with you guys! 🎉🎈 I am still delighted that @msevylynch chose to ignore my well meaning suggestions that she "wait a bit" to get a floof! Puff wasn't just the first animal that I really bonded with, she also (inadvertently) taught me to extend my compassion further, to people or animals I might never meet but could, nevertheless, be harming with my actions. It's no accident that I went vegan shortly after this majestic ball of fur and claws rolled into our orbit.

But first, like many of you, I've been following all of the UN Climate Change stuff and with season 2 of @chickpeepspod just around the corner, I wanted to dust off my soapbox. When learning about a science-based issue - be it climate change, the optimal human diet or the best way to set up your own colony on Mars: follow the SCIENTIFIC CONSENSUS! There always is one - even if, occasionally, it is "We don't know!" Unfortunately, our society seems to care less about truth and more about opinion when discussing science. Political entities will attempt to corrupt or confuse the scientific understanding of the masses with paid "experts" who will tell you whatever those political entities want you to believe. For that reason you can always find ONE scientist to tell you anything (earth is flat, moon is 🧀, Lily belonged with Snape). But that isn't the CONSENSUS. And scientists CAN be trusted because, unlike bankers, scientists didn't fall in love with their chosen discipline to make money or to mislead people. They became scientists to discover empirical evidence... or, to put it more simply; truth! We have trusted them from Isaac Newton & Stephen Hawking explaining the parameters of our universe to Alan Turing and his computers & Rosalind Franklin with DNA. They have made sense of our world and helped design everything in it. We need to trust them on climate change! That is not to say 'trust them blindly'. Read reports and journals (if you enjoy them; I'm a nerd, I do). Search for as many different sources as you can find. But always look for the CONSENSUS. That way you can protect yourself from this insidious phase that our society seems to be going thru in which we devalue the word 'expert' by paying individual academics to abandon their integrity and shill for whichever big, politically motivated entity wishes to pay them the most money. We must start dragging scientific debate back to evidence and facts and leave political allegiance, opinion & bias at the door. That incredible image was created by #mariosancheznevado. I know it's tempting to buy an animal like a pair of shoes but you will never be loved by anyone the way you are by an animal you have rescued! This beautiful little fur baby is up for adoption in Ecuador with @fundacion_almanimal but if you're reading this on Instagram there is an animal adoption agency near you! Hello friends, today is my birthday but I'm spending it in L.A. this year because I'm currently in rehearsals for Loot, written by Joe Orton, which will be on stage at @odysseytheatre. Loot is a black comedy about a bank robbery gone wrong - yes, I'm one of the hapless thieves (always up to no good)! The script is hilarious & I'm very happy to be clowning around with these wonderful people for the next few months. My favourite thing about bodyweight exercises (calisthenics) is the requirement to constantly learn new techniques in order to master new skills. Naturally that means accepting failure as a part of the process. Most of us, myself included, leave childhood with the misguided notion that failure is to be avoided at all costs. Turns out that is just ego; my failures have taught me so much more than my successes ever did. What kind of workouts do you enjoy and do you allow yourself kindness to fail & room to grow afterwards? Here's a fun exercise you don't see very often. Supinated grip muscle-ups. "Every person you meet knows something you don't know". I try to remind myself of this fact daily. It keeps me open to new ideas & always excited to meet people who might share with me their expertise. In this case @louismatracia saw me doing muscle-ups asked me how slowly I could do a ring muscle up. "I'm not sure" I said, "I've never tried". He then proceeded to show me the slowest RMU I'd ever seen in person and gave me some tips for my own one. We ended up filming a couple of attempts, side by side. He beat me fair & square on the first one - this was our second attempt (which is why he was tiring) - which he agreed to do so that I could record it for you guys. I'm thankful for anyone who has the generosity to share their skills with someone else & the humility to remember that we are always pupils as well as teachers! So thanks to @louismatracia for providing the competition & motivation to teach me something new. And, as always, thank you to @zfleckk for providing the commentary and camera work 📹!

I don't often post directly about veganism because I'm aware most of you guys eat meat & if we're honest, probably think of vegans as weird, brainwashed hippies that care about animals more than people. I get it; from the outside the lifestyle doesn't sound super appealing... 'Give up a bunch of foods that everyone else tells you are 'the best' foods and become an expert on climate change?! Um, no. Thanks though.' Thing is, that isn't what veganism is about AT ALL. A few years ago, just after I went vegan, I read about a study that found the Harry Potter books helped readers to be more compassionate and understanding towards others. It makes sense, since those books  at their core, are all about love triumphing over cruelty. So if you cheered when Dobby got his freedom. Or Mrs W. beat Bellatrix. Or when Buckbeak was saved. Or each time Harry stood  up to Voldemort. Or at literally anything Newt, Hermione or Hagrid has ever done, you are already vegan at heart, you just haven't put it into practice yet. ANNIVERSARY! 4 years ago TODAY this fluffy greybie appeared in our lives. When @msevylynch first asked me if it was a good idea to get a puff, I told her it definitely wasn't the right time and she should wait until life was more settled... I've never been happier to be wrong about anything in my life. We didn't have pets growing up, so she's been the first animal I've really been pals with and I can safely say 'I get it' now. She's changed the way I view a lot of things and above all she's taught me that, really, my sole purpose in life is to feed her treats, so for that I'm thankful. #lilpuff #caturday

Went to the @peta offices yesterday with fellow @chickpeepspod host @tylorstarr. Having spent so much of the last 6 months involved in the animal right movement it was really cool to meet the real warriors & activists, like Tylor, and see where they make magic happen. Regardless of whether you're an animal lover, or you've got a pet you care about, or you're vegan or simply just want to leave the world better than you found it, it's inspiring to meet people who spend their lives fighting for those who can't fight for themselves.
